Lately:

Three things:
1. My friend ran a PR at Boston: 4:28:33 (also watched the women's Olympic trials) All inspiring!

2. My sister is promoting running for youths.

3. I'm going for another: Marine Corps 2008

Elevation

A friend of my sister's is managing a team in the 2008 Hood-to-Coast relay, and I've agreed to join! The race isn't until the end of August, so there is plenty of time to train, but it sounds pretty daunting, grueling even. Each runner runs three legs of the race, anywhere from 3 to 8 miles over various terrain, at various times of day or night. We finish at Seaside; that makes it all worth it!

Next Up...

My friend Rebecca has decided to start training for the Boston Marathon in April. These are some thoughts she had once the decision was made:

Goosebumps (as in 'talk to me Goose...)? Try TURKEYbumps -- that's the largest species of bird I can think of on the fly). Yep. I get 'em. I got 'em reading your message just now, so thanks for that. Goosebumps -- let's see: I get them thinking about what it's like the night before, when you're so damn nervous your pasta sits in your tummy like so many basketballs. I get them thinking about walking up to the table and claiming your bag that contains the number that you will pin on your shirt (to say nothingof all the cool stuff!), an experience that few get to have in this lifetime... Thanks. And thanks... This is gonna be good... Goose out

The Week After

There is much relief associated with this week, after the soreness of last and the anticipation of the week before that! But it's a letdown, too: So much training going into one day, and now it's over! Holidays approach, but I can tell, with recovery, that I'm ready for the next challenge. What should it be...?

Flora London?
Marine Corps?
Boston?
Or
something completely different...?

Check that off the list

So we did it! It was an amazingly smooth process, and we both agreed that it had never been this much fun! Great weather, great crowd... and we beat Katie Holmes (not so Ms Radcliffe)!
